Inspired by the native sounds of his African roots, Mannywellz found his voice inherently – translating his life experiences through his artistry in songwriting, producing and playing multiple instruments. Talented in each component of his craft, listeners don’t immediately know what to expect from the Nigerian-born, Maryland-based artist. After realizing the uniqueness of his sound and his dynamic yet seemingly effortless performance style, it’s easy to imagine why Mannywellz has shared the stage with the likes of Jidenna, Erykah Badu, Tory Lanez, Jaden & Willow Smith and many more. With an infectious smile, playful nature, and powerful voice Mannywellz continues to leave audiences awe-struck, recognizing the passion and raw talent in his delivery.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are pausing production of the DC Music Rocks show for a while!

Our goal has always been to connect the DC community with the incredible music scene here in the city.  The show is only 1 piece of the total DC Music Rocks Platform.  The show in its current format requires 15-20 man hours per week to produce, and is the biggest effort of the team by far.  We believe that the website, and the information we share is also a big value for the community. We’re going to spend some time concentrating on expanding and improving the Live Music Calendar and DC Artist Database on our website. We’re looking at starting a blog as well to relay the news.  There’s the possibility of bringing the podcast back in the future in a different format, we’ll see. We’re excited about the future!

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

  1. SIGN UP FOR OUR EMAIL LIST - We still will be emailing all our news, so if you haven’t signed up for our email list already the link is here: https://www.dcmusicrocks.com/contact

  2. AUGUST 17 AT 930 CLUB, MARK YOUR CALENDAR - We’re already locked in for our 3rd annual DC Music Rocks Festival, and this one’s going to be even bigger than the last.  See you there!

10/16/18 - Special Guest: Luke James Shaffer

This week on DC Music Rocks, Luke James Shaffer, a singer-songwriter whose easy-spirited musicality traverses alternative Americana, folk-pop, country, soul, gospel, stops by for a chat with host Brian Nelson-Palmer.  The episode also features great tracks by Dan Barry, Mannywellz, The Private Contractors, and Sydney Franklin.

Luke James Shaffer

Luke James Shaffer Bio/Links:

Luke James Shaffer's first single from the new EP "Volume One" is the invigorating gospel-infused pop-rock track which boasts spiritual uplift, anthemic hooks, and heaps of soul. “That song is a reminder that there is only so much we can control, and, if things don’t go the way we plan, it’s not the end of the world, it’s just life,” Luke shares. The single will be paired with an animated video that addresses bullying issues in high school in a sharply insightful and entertaining way. Pressure’s second single will be “How Sweet The Sound,” a storyteller romance that glows with vintage soul touches like a Hammond B3 and smoldering grooves.

Luke is on the precipice of fulfilling his dream of doing original music full-time. Up next, he will tour behind his EP and record its follow-up release. “There is a lot of pressure associated with this,” he acknowledges with a sly pun. “But I have a strong faith in everything we are doing. I have the attitude that when you put the hard work in, believe in yourself and your team and manifest a positive outcome for your life, things will work out.”

THIS WEEK'S LOCAL DC SHOWS TO SEE

NOTE:  The calendar is still up and working.  We’re having technical issues with the calendar though, there’s shows we know of that are missing?!  Sadly, our developer ran off, and we have no $ left from our grant funding to hire someone new to fix it.  If you know someone in web development who works with Javascript and API coding, please send them our way!  We’re looking for recommendations. In the meantime, we hope you also find your favorite artists in our DC Artist Database, follow them, and go see shows!  We’re still bringing you new artists each week and still adding to the database constantly!
