Cat Janice and the Band is an indie rock/alternative group from the Washington, D.C. area. Cat Janice mirrors groups like Lady Gaga, and Bishop Briggs, with a hint of Amy Winehouse to create a lively, driving sound. Cat has been featured on Country Music Television's popular TV Show, "Redneck Island" for her song "Fire" in March, 2016. Cat Janice is an integral part of DC's One Love Massive, a music collective and think tank. Her latest track, Pricey, came out in late November, and there are 2 more singles due to be released in January with producer Austin Bello of Forever the Sickest Kids!

HM - Glimmer 1.jpg

Heather Mae Bio/Links:

Interview Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojhQZQ2Jrys

Heather Mae writes music for the light seekers and the good trouble makers. Her upcoming record, "Glimmer", is a record for when you're in the dark, searching for the light. Piano driven alt-pop featuring cinematic strings, vibrant brass, and a driving bass line, compliment atmospheric tom-heavy drums (a la Fleetwood Mac’s "Go Your Own Way"). Mae, a powerhouse performer and earthshaking vocalist, has taken her personal struggle with mental health, placed it into a record and live show, and turned her experience into a universal light force that shines for every audience member. This is not your mother's social justice music. This is not a flower-in-your-hair, solo acoustic guitar performer singing songs and taking encores while throwing peace. Heather is an empowering, on-fire, musical experience delivered via explosive vocals over high energy rhythm-heavy instrumentation that bursts in the chest of every audience member, moved to their core by her passion and message of self-love. Dubbed “the new queer Adele” by L-Mag, Heather Mae won the 2017 Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriter Showcase and has opened for acclaimed musical artists such as Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls), Holly Near, Tom Goss, Chris Pureka, and Danielle Ate the Sandwich. Consider donating to her Kickstarter and being the glimmer in the dark for someone who needs it:

Broke Royals

Broke Royals Bio/Links:

Interview Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo32UHTMs2o

Broke Royals was not supposed to be a band. In 2013, Colin Cross and Philip Basnight met at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. Basnight was playing as a solo acoustic act and Cross was breaking ground on a recording studio after years as a touring musician.

After finishing his studio in 2014, Cross needed demos to entice potential clients and he invited Basnight to record some of his songs in the new studio. In their first sessions, the chemistry was palpable and musical partnership was born under the name Broke Royal.

Over the last four years, Basnight and Cross honed a singular sound and toured the country. Joined by live members Taimir Gore and Ben Wilson, Broke Royals always deliver premium rock & roll. True to the roots of their earliest moments in the studio, Basnight and Cross continue to find new ways to meld the genres and inspiration that define their exciting new sound, which Billboard called "arena-ready" and earned them the title as "one of the best live bands in DC" by CBS.

Elizabeth II

Elizabeth II Bio/Links:

Interview Link: https://youtu.be/LfyNM55M7p8

Elizabeth II is a dynamic and punchy rock and roll guitarist and singer-songwriter from Washington DC. She began performing her hard-hitting and raw original songs with a live band in January of 2017. With an eclectic Stevie Nicks nostalgia blended with a new age youthful edge, Elizabeth II combines thunderous vocals with bluesy guitar riffs driven by pulsating rhythms. Beth Cannon (Elizabeth II) is a rising guitar force in the local DC music scene. Pairing bluesy BB King styled licks along with the Contemporary solo styles Steve Vai, she's earned praise from world class guitarists like Slash (Guns n’ Roses), Nick Johnston, and Kevin Thrasher (Escape the Fate).

Justin Shapiro

Justin Shapiro Bio/Links:

Justin Shapiro is a Bethesda, MD native, and has been playing in the DC area since 2007. With influences like Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper and Bob Dylan, Justin took his country-bent blues, folk-rock, alternative sound and formed Green River Junction.

After drummer Rich Cairns relocated to SC, they couldn't find an easy replacement, and the band shortly fizzled out. Justin, who plays around town almost every weekend, took his songs and released his debut album "Campfire Party" in May of 2018. It currently has 2 charting songs on the Digital Radio Tracker charts, and his single "Inspiration Nation" reached #12 on the rock charts; the hardest song on the album. From the basement of Jackpot in Chinatown, to the legendary stage at the 9:30 Club, find Justin playing all around the DMV. Check out www.justinshapiromusic.com for his full schedule.

THIS WEEK'S LOCAL DC SHOWS TO SEE

NOTE:  The calendar is still up and working.  We’re having technical issues with the calendar though, there’s shows we know of that are missing?!  Sadly, our developer ran off, and we have no $ left from our grant funding to hire someone new to fix it.  If you know someone in web development who works with Javascript and API coding, please send them our way!  We’re looking for recommendations. In the meantime, we hope you also find your favorite artists in our DC Artist Database, follow them, and go see shows!  We’re still bringing you new artists each week and still adding to the database constantly!

HUGE shoutout to our current Patrons!
