Broke Royals was not supposed to be a band. In 2013, Colin Cross and Philip Basnight met at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. Basnight was playing as a solo acoustic act and Cross was breaking ground on a recording studio after years as a touring musician.

After finishing his studio in 2014, Cross needed demos to entice potential clients and he invited Basnight to record some of his songs in the new studio. In their first sessions, the chemistry was palpable and musical partnership was born under the name Broke Royal.

Over the last four years, Basnight and Cross honed a singular sound and toured the country. Joined by live members Taimir Gore and Ben Wilson, Broke Royals always deliver premium rock & roll. True to the roots of their earliest moments in the studio, Basnight and Cross continue to find new ways to meld the genres and inspiration that define their exciting new sound, which Billboard called "arena-ready" and earned them the title as "one of the best live bands in DC" by CBS.
