What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Currecnt large ensemble formed while I was living in NW DC, now in Silver Spring, MD.
At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Founder, baritone saxophonist, and arranger Matt Rippetoe performs and records with lots of local artists, including The Funk Ark, Thievery Corporation, Dog Fashion Disco, See-I, Black Masala, and King Soul.
The band started out as a trio, with Joe Herrera on trumpet and Josh Kay on congas. Rippetoe was inspired to start the project after a series of "Belafonte bathtimes", when he would play Belafonte's hits during his infant son's evening ritual.
We have a series of recordings, including a 3-song EP featuring local vocalists and a full-length holiday CD "Holidays with the Harry Bells". We record live, all in one room with no headphones or overdubs.
