Band/Artist Name: Technicians

Recommended if you like: Deftones, At The Drive-In, Thursday, Fugazi

Story behind your band/artist name: The name has gone through several changes. We started with 'Nightlight,' but it sounded like we should be wearing mascara. We started searching for a new name and hit upon Technicians while watching the roadies set up at a Ben Folds show. We almost went with 'Kamikaze Rocketsheep.' Close call.

Band Members: Navid Marvi (guitar & vocals), Nick Glover (guitar), Ryan Hobbs (bass), Steve Smith (drums)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : We mostly play around U Street & H Street in DC (Black Cat, DC9, Rock & Roll Hotel) but none of us live in DC anymore. We're in Annapolis, MD, Burke Fairfax & Leesburg, VA.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: 1. Our first show was at the Korean Embassy to celebrate Obama’s first election. It was weirder than it sounds. We were asked to play after an acoustic set at an American University open mic. We then played 4 songs (not acoustic) as a two-piece and loop pedal. It was LOUD. After the fog cleared there was only 3 people left in the room. Still our best show!

2. Navid & Steve are also in Drop Electric—a DC post-rock/experimental band. They've headlined (and sold out) the 9:30 club and will release their fourth LP this year. Nick is in a prog-rock and video game tribute band called Gunblade X. They often play conventions in the DC/VA area. Hobbs was in Grey Sky Eternal, a VA alt-rock band.

3. Navid designs every headlining poster for Technicians, and 90% of the other posters. He has been lucky enough to also work with many other DC area bands to design their posters, album covers and logos.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: 'Now That We're Home', our first full-length album, will be out on April 14th. 9 songs of eclectic post-punk. It’s been a long journey… we fully recorded the album in 2015 (at Inner Ear Studios) but were just not 100% happy with it. At the end of the day, it was going to cost too much to get the results we wanted. The tracks we were left with required too much work to be practical, so we ended up scrapping them and starting over. Naturally, it evolved a little and we’re so excited to finally share it.

'Mistakes' is the first single. We see it as a a love letter to the heavy music we grew up with. A marriage of Dischord-era punk and the melodic textures of Deftones. It's a sort-of lament on male bravado and overconfidence.
