DC Music Rocks Ardamus

Info

Band/Artist Name: Ardamus

Recommended if you like: I have been compared to Ice Cube, Jay-Z, Rza, Raekwon, Hieroglyphics, and etc. If you have never heard of me, I'd say something like a mix between the Gorillaz

Band Members: Ardamus - emcee/beatmaker/producer

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : I am currently in Northeast within the Fort Totten area.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: (1) I randomly ran into Ian McKaye from Fugazi in front of Kaffa House on U Street years ago when it was open. A bunch of us were free styling outside of the venue because we were supposed to have a hip hop night there but we couldn't since there was a band playing inside. Ian comes outside and watches us freestyle and he's intrigued by it. I talk to him and I got his contact and he called leaving a message. I lost his phone number and didn't run into him years later. One of my good friends was roommates with the drummer, Jerry Busher, from Fugazi. Then me and him became good friends and worked on some music years later. And eventually, I ran back into Ian and if I recall he remembered from that night.
(2) When I used to live in Anacostia, I got robbed a few times. One time, I got robbed and I was completely broke and devastated. Within the next few days, there was a rap battle at Velvet Lounge some people I knew were throwing. All the frustration built up in me and I won the battle and some money for the week that night. Crazy I know.
(3) Most people don't know this but some people know that legendary DJ Harry Hotta is literally my brotha. Known the guy for years. We constantly try to work on our Art Hotta project and we argue so much about music that it sometimes never happens. LOL. But we always hang out and shoot the breeze. But we fight because he'll dog me about how music I may put out and not getting into some of the newer stuff. We eventually meet on common grounds but the conversations are always funny and they get funnier over the years.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: I want to do a tour so if people are interested in helping me crowd fund this ordeal, let me know. LOL. Also, I am part of Delegation Music which includes RNL, Edword Asis, and Prowess The Testament.

Info

Band/Artist Name: of Tomorrow

Recommended if you like: Muse, Umphrey's McGee, Radiohead, Weather Report,

Story behind your band/artist name: The full story of how we met, our concept, our first show, and how it has grown to its current state is concisely explained here, in our recent interview with Mike Sains of Audio Barre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nozxrldCmIY

Band Members: Geoff Browning (guitar, vocals), Jon Modell (drums/percussion), Nick Soderstrom (bass), and a rotating cast of our favorite musicians/collaborators who never fail to keep things fresh, creative, and inspiring.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Geoff lives on Capitol Hill in DC - and we even recorded part of our record there. Jon Modell lives in Falls Church, and Nick Soderstrom lives in DC. So, DC is our current home base.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: We are good friends with DC's own Oddisee (http://www.npr.org/2017/02/18/515388491/oddisees-the-iceberg-has-a-trove-of-stories-beneath-its-surface), and we share a few bandmates with his band GOOD COMPNY, including Ralph Real (keys) and DJ UNOWN (mpc/samples). They are amazing. We recently lent them our practice space, so they could use it to get ready for their tour 0 and Oddisee made a promo video about our "secret" practice space (see here - https://www.facebook.com/oddiseemusic/videos/10154573022707982/).
2. Our lead singer Geoff Browning worked on Capitol Hill for Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, and other Democrats - on the front lines of legislative fights over education, foreign affairs, defense, consumer protection/financial services, and other issues. He helped Barney with his book, wrote and performed an original song for his wedding (the first-ever time a sitting member of congress married a same-sex partner), and ultimately asked Barney to record lyrics for a song on our new album, which he did. Barney was the former chair of the Financial Services Committee, and author of Dodd-Frank. Listen to his track here: https://voidlife.bandcamp.com/track/floutro-ft-hfsc-chairman-barney-frank-ret-author-dodd-frank-act

3. Jon Modell, our drummer, is a fixture on the DC music scene - he has played in tons of bands (since high school) with members of Thievery Corporation, Fugazi, etc - he toured with Fort Knox Five - he also toured with (and learned how to play reggae from) Junior Marvin, Bob Marley's guitar player. He used to play in Nappy Riddem as well, and sometimes still plays dates with them.

4. Our album is being distributed by VoidLife records, out of College Park Maryland, our dear friends who are doing amazing things on the DC music scene. The album itself can be downloaded for FREE on our website (www.bandoftomorrow.com), but for anyone who would like to order a physical copy, or who wants to pay us for the digital download, they can go over to the VL bandcamp (http://voidlife.bandcamp.com/album/of-tomorrow) and scoop it up there. Every physical CD order ships with personalized trinkets, thank yous, drawings on the envelope, and more. Come join the community!

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Our bass player Nick Soderstrom studied music in Sweden (at conservatory) and New Orleans (at Loyola) - his speed, dexterity, and timing are a thing to behold. For a good example of this, check out the song Basslove on our album, featuring Jon Ferrara from Consider the Source. Jon is an old friend and another prominent bass player - so when we asked him to play on our album (and duel with Nick), he was pretty excited to do it.
