Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Andy Shea, Andy Shay

Recommended if you like: David Bazan, Weezer, Beck, Ben Kweller, Conor Oberst, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith

Story behind your band/artist name: My parents named me Andrew Shea and swore that I'd be an "Andrew," not an "Andy." There is video evidence of them calling me "Andy" within 5 minutes of bringing me home from the hospital.

Band Members: Andy Shea

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Andy Shea has lived in DC proper for four years teaching English at a local high school. His New England roots are mostly grounded in Connecticut.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Andy Shea lost his FitBit somewhere near Madam's Organ one fateful Friday night in February 2017. He has no idea how many steps he's taken since.

Andy Shea wrote/recorded a song every month for a full year in his DC apartment. He released the compilation as "Lunar Songs" as a fundraising event for the National Down Syndrome Society in honor of his brother Matthew, who has Downs syndrome. He raised $4,077. It's definitely in the top-3 best things he's done with his time/energy.

When Andy Shea isn't writing music for himself, he writes parody educational songs for his students about everything from Oedipus to Puritans. They're on the internet under Mr. Shea.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Andy prefers iced coffee more than hot coffee regardless of season.

He's at The Boundary Stone open mic on Mondays on a mostly weekly basis.

He most enjoys playing in living rooms or around campfires with people who like to listne and sing along.

Band/Artist Name: Alex The Red Parez aka El Rojo

Recommended if you like: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Arlington, Alexandria, Washington DC - current home base is IOTA Club and Cafe, I host the open mic there every Wednesday and also work door for shows

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: I broke my first guitar playing the open mic at IOTA Club and Cafe (guitar fell off guitar strap, hit the stage floor, headstock broke off).

My favorite local band is/was The Deadmen.

I recently celebrated the anniversary of the release of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska album by performing the album in its entirety (and then some!) at IOTA Club and Cafe on the anniversary of its release (September 30th) with Terry Boes (harmonica), Jason Mendelson (bass) and Nina Garcia (violin).

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Bio:

Alex "The Red" Parez and the Hell Rojos have been bringing acoustic rock and old-time country to Washington, D.C. audiences since 2010. Whether performing original music or classic material, Alex's voice is “reminiscent of Johnny Cash, though often sung with Jello Biafra’s inflection” (Matthew Stabley, NBCWashington.com) and “sounds like Nick Cave reinterpreting the early songbook of Bill Callahan” (The Big Easy – MetroMusicScene.com). "El Rojo" to his friends, Parez takes inspiration from epic troubadours Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and local balladeer John Bustine. In trio mode, Alex is flanked by accomplished harmonica sideman Terry Boes and prolific bassist Jason Mendelson of MetroSongs notoriety.

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Honey Kill and Ara Casey (Air-AH)

Recommended if you like: We're a little The Dead Weather, a little Lake Street Dive, a little Joplin, a little Jett. Our influences are The Dead Weather to Ennio Morricone, Tegan & Sara to Beach House

Story behind your band/artist name: Recently we had to undergo a band name change. Another band named "Lonely Ocean" (who had originated at the same time we did) wrote asking us to change our name. Lots of niceties etc, and "we don't want to have to take legal action..." lol We batted around a lot of names - because of course, when you need one you can never find one... We tended to stick with names that empowered a femme identity, or ones that mocked traditional representations of women. My co-writer conflated two of the suggestions to come up with Honey Kill. Only until after we'd changed the name did we realize that both the drummer and I are beekeepers so it worked out perfectly.

Band Members: Ara (vox/guitar), Alex (guitar), Juliette (bass), Erik (guitar) & Nick (drums)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : I grew up in Takoma Park and my co-writer Alex is from upstate NY residing in Herndon by way of Pittsburgh. Our drummer is in NoVA and Juliette and Erik are within a stones through in Takoma Park.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Alex and I met on Craigslist when we identified a shared love of The Dead Weather and Ennio Morricone.
We have two beekeepers in the band.
Our bassists last band was Juliette and the Thunderballs and now plays in The Outskirts.
Nick doesn't like the Beatles. (That may be too revealing. We still love him tho.)
Erik was classically trained at Peabody though he rocks hard and has a soft spot for puns.
Joey Jenkins and Ben Tufts are intermittent band members.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: We're primarily a live band. I have a solo EP and Juliette is about to release an EP with The Outskirts. In addition to Honey Kill, Juliette and I also duet out. I am also writing with a project called The OSYX comprised of the front women from FuzzQueen and More AM Than FM that expects to perform starting in May. Currently participating in Hat Band for sh*ts and grins. I love people.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Northern Virginia / Leesburg

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: I met 2/3 of my band in November of 2015 when we were playing at the Sylvan Theater. It was sparsely attended and we were freezing to death, and we didn't actually connect till about five months later, but we have some cool pictures of us being miserable and cold.

I never intended to be a DC area native (you kind of hate the idea of staying in the area you grew up in) but the constant bustle pulled me back in, and the political memes are righteous.

My entire career is based out of Leesburg!

We are dedicated to environmental preservation, we are all best friends, we love John Mayer and Fleetwood Mac

Atleast 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band that are related to persons/places/things/events that happened in the Washington DC area. 2) Adrian was living in DC during Obama's first Presidency campaign, win, and inauguration! He was one of the first to crowd the White House when Obama became the projected winner of Presidency, chanting "Sí, se puede" in praise. He also froze his butt off sitting at the Washington Monument watching Obama's first inauguration and spent two hours trying to find a Subway for lunch afterwards.
3) Adrian was part of a music community called "Modern Times", based on the coffee-shop underneath Politics & Prose bookstore, which recently lost it's lease. He was part of the Modern Times Open Mic community for over 7 years while living in the area, and met many friends, roommates, and ultimately Meredith at Modern Times.

The Bumper Jacksons

Info

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Bumper Jacksons - Bum-per Jack-suns

Recommended if you like: Trying to NOT sound like popular bands :)... But! if you insist: willie nelson, pokey lafarge, nathaniel rateliff, wood brothers

Story behind your band/artist name: Jess and I started out traveling together across the southern US to where the music was, hunkering down for a while in each place and trying to learn from the source. We found ourselves doing just this in SW Louisiana, and were staying at the time with the Jackson family. They had a small rice farm with an inlaw suite out back and cheap rent. Well, we'd go into Lafayette, Baton Rouge and/or New Orleans to see bands and come home and play their tunes in our little cabin and their big black lab named Bumper would come on out and howl along to Jess's clarinet. So our duo became a trio, and since Bumper was by far the best vocalist of the three, he was deemed the bandleader and front-dog. When we left the farm and went back up north to Appalachia, we had to leave Bumperbehind... but as Levon Helms & Co did with Bob Dylan, we fashioned a band name in reference to the previous employment: The Bumper Jacksons' Band, which over time, and via lingual laziness, became Bumper Jacksons.

Band Members: Jess Eliot - clarinet, washboard, lead/harmony vox. Chris - guitars, banjo, lead/harmony vox. Alex - upright bass, harmony vox. Dan Samuels - drums. Joe - trumpet. Brian - trombone. Dave 'Duckpin' Hadley - pedal steel.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : All of it? Chris (who's writing this) is 4 generations deep in DC (great grandfather emigrated from germany in the 1910s and was the upright bassist in the white house band and clarinetist in the marine band). Jess & Chris own a house in Brentwood, Joe lives in Southeast, Brian lives in Cheverly, MD. The others are Baltimoreans.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: 1. We did this thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq9Q7uy_51I

2. I like to repeat the 4 generations part and relate stories about the Great Grandpa Franz Xavier Schumm I got from my grandma, like how GG Schumm played jazz bass on U street when the clubs were first popping up and in the same ones as jelly roll morton and duke ellington. Also, my grandma has stories about how it was her job to go downstairs and clean beer bottles for refilling, bc being German, ol Franz didn't take heed to prohibition and by doing so, became very popular amongst his musician buddies. This was not at all appreciated by the chief bottle washer, who had her workload nearly tripled between 1920 and 1933.

3. square dances were seriously how we paid the bills early on in this project. This was pre-horn section Bumper J's. DC's actually got the largest one in the US at themoment, thanks to the DC Square Dance Collective.

Info

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Brent & Co. (Brent and Company)

Recommended if you like: Van Morrison, SOJA, Ed Sheeran, Dave Matthews, Ben Howard, Al Green, Virginia Coalition

Story behind your band/artist name: The band name is pretty straightforward. Often the band can take different forms (duo, trio, quartet) and line ups of musicians. Since I was usually the only common thread linking all these performances I figured I'd keep it simple.

Band Members: Brent Peterson, Dominic Fragman (Drums), Derrick Michaels (Sax), Joe Martone (Bass)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : I (Brent) call Southeast DC my home, I live near the banks of the Anacostia river which inspired this latest album.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area:
- Most of the musicians I now play with, if you pull the thread long enough, I met through Craigslist
- Our latest album is a direct product of days spent out on the Anacostia River in my canoe and witnessing how abused the river has been over the years BUT also how much the river has improved in recent months.
- The producer of the album, Jarrett Nicolay, is a personal hero of mine. I LOVED his band, Virginia Coalition, when I was younger, I booked them to play my high school and I consider them a huge influence.
- Sometimes making opportunities work takes some crazy drives; one time we did an 18hr overnight drive from Charlotte, NC to Minneapolis, MN
- Donald Rumsfeld once asked for the band to turn it down. Keep on rocking in the free world!
- We're hustlers! Brent & Co. has averaged 250 performances a year over the past four years!
- The band dog is a little black pug named for Ani DiFranco since Brent is originally from her hometown of Buffalo, NY

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: 2018 is the YEAR OF THE ANACOSTIA and people should know and celebrate this fact since the park and river are amazing resources and should be used and loved by all!
We're working musicians, out there in the trenches. Sometimes it's a blast, sometimes it's struggle to keep it going - but we love what we do.

Info

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Blue Plains

Recommended if you like: Radiohead, Wilco, Arcade Fire

Story behind your band/artist name: Eco-minded DMV residents might recognize the fact that we share a name with the area's largest sewage waste water treatment plant. This choice was not accidental. Founding members Lee Cain and Adam Ortiz boast serious environmental credentials, with Ortiz heading up the Prince George's County Department of Environment and Cain currently serving as Director of Kingman Island, an oasis of nature on the Anacostia River. Bassist Brandon Miller also works for the DC Department of Environment. If you get the joke, good for you! If you don't, we think its a cool name that speaks to the band's love of nature and open spaces.

Band Members: Adam (vocals, guitar), Lee (vocals, cavaquinho, guitar), Pete (violin), Brandon (bass), Joe (drums)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Hyattsville, Maryland is home base for this band. Pete, Adam and Lee all reside in this up-and-coming neighborhood, which is filled with people representing all aspects of the creative arts.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Adam is a guitar/guitar equipment hoarder. But he's trying to get the help he needs ;-) Pete & Lee met during Hyattsville's annual hops-hop, where neighbors troop from house to house drinking their fill and making new connections. As Director of Kingman Island, Lee has worked his fingers to the bone to help pull off the Island's annual bluegrass festival, but he also gets to do all sorts of weird things... like spreading tons of biosolids (otherwise known as sewage sludge) over areas that used to be paved with concrete. All part of restoring the island's natural beauty!

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Blue Plains will release its debut LP on February 7. Its a nine-track album featuring all-original songs recorded on vintage analog tape equipment with the venerable Don Zientara of Inner Ear Studios and mastered with Smithsonian sound engineer and Grammy winner Pete Reiniger. We have tried to craft an immersive experience that will speak to the heart and please the ear.

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: By & By

Recommended if you like: Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Shovels & Rope

Story behind your band/artist name: "By and by" is a phrase often used in traditional bluegrass music to refer to something that will happen eventually, whether it is the return of a lost love or leaving this mortal coil. We think the phrase reflects our music, capturing both tragedy and heartache as well as eternal optimism. We will meet again, one fine day, by and by.

Band Members: Elise (lead vocals and guitar), Claire (harmony vocals and fiddle), Jim (mandolin), Steve (banjo), Trevor (harmony vocals and bass), Dan (harmony vocals and guitar)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : The epicenter of By & By is our mandolin player's front porch, located in the Woodley Park neighborhood, where we have spent seven years rehearsing, writing, and becoming very close friends.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: 1. The only remaining original member of By & By is Jim, our mandolin player, who joined By & By when it was a punk-bluegrass group playing at farmers markets around the city.
2. By & By has had a monthly residency in DC since 2010. We started at Sova, a now-closed bar and community hangout that was one of the first businesses to open during the Atlas district revitalization and that served as home base for the burgeoning indie-bluegrass scene. When Sova closed in 2013, Argonaut picked up the weekly series, and By & By played once a month through 2015 when it made the move to its current residency at the historic Mr. Henry's on Capitol Hill.
3. By & By is the only band to have played every single Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival since its inception in 2010. The festival is DC's largest bluegrass festival, regularly drawing close to 10,000 annually.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: By & By is releasing a new record, tentatively titled "Songs for this Old Heart," in November, 2017!

Band Members: James Ellis, Jim, lead guitar. John Dahlman, stand up bass. Olivia Ferrante, Vocals and percussion.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : MD

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: I only started this thing 5 years ago! I wrote songs my whole life but never shared them. I went to an open mic in Wheaton and played out for the first time, and a year later I had a local label recording my first album.

A couple years ago I played a gig at O Mansion and ever since I've been an artist-in-residence there and record a radio show for an English radio station once a month.

Last summer I played the lead in an Americana Dust Opera called Rain Follows the PLow at the Atlas with Capital Fringe.

Last November I wrote a song called "Brighter Day" and it was picked up by a play at George Mason University. I got to perform!

I am 6 foot one and have hit my head on the ceilings of many DC live music establishments.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: I just recorded an EP with Austin Bellow of Forever the Sickest Kids- will be released in May. I can shoot you links to those if you are interested- really new direction and lots of guitar distortion!

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Crooks and Crows, (Pronounciation: Krooks and Kros)

Recommended if you like: Merle Haggard / Hank Williams / George Jones / Johnny Cash / Waylon Jennings / Ernest Tubb

Story behind your band/artist name:

Band Members: Patrick Brothers - Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica / Jamie Linder - Pedal Steel and Guitar / Jake Warrenfeltz- Bass / Jesse Aasheim - Drums, Vocals / Steve Higgs - Electric Guitar

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Takoma Park, MD

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: - Patrick & Jamie are media specialists for the Humane Society of the United States and often go in to disaster areas (post hurricane, post flood - when other are leaving) and are part of the team that rescue animals.
- Jake (Bass) is an accomplished comic book artist. Winner of an Aesop Award and nominated for an Eisner Award. He does all our show posters (naturally).
- Patrick & Jamie both started as Punk Rock musicians
- Jesse plays on a minimal drum set-up. His theory is less is more... until we can afford roadies.
- Steve averages 1 gear related purchase per week. It's an addiction for which the only cure is: more gear.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Crooks and Crows is a gritty blend of Americana, Folk, and Honky Tonk. Their progressive country sound brings you on the road and through a diverse landscape of beautiful, dusty, and honest experiences involving motorcycles, ghost towns, battles between good and evil, failed baptisms, and broken hearts and bones. If early Springsteen, Dylan, George Jones, and Hank Williams were in a four-way head-on collision, Crooks and Crows would be the oily, bloody mess flowing towards the gutter- draining to the creek.

Their debut, self-titled album contains a mix of upbeat, cogent anthems, lyrical play, rootsy finger-picking and raw, lonesome emotions backed by dulcet tones. John Patrick jokes of the band, "We basically like to play with the crowd's emotions. If you don't feel as though you've been on an emotional rollercoaster after our set then we haven't done our job. Crooks and Crows is your high school boyfriend."

Band/Artist Name: The Cowards Choir

Recommended if you like: Lord Huron, Ryan Adams, Hiss Golden Messenger, Paul Simon

Story behind your band/artist name: Andy Zipf is taking a new name: The Cowards Choir. "It took me a few years to figure things out. I'm grateful for the time I've had to chip away at some edges. Now I'm ready to begin again." Zipf has always been committed to growth. He's taken that ethic to stages and street corners across the US, and has not gone unnoticed. Zipf's music continues to surface on network television and in independent films, and has participated in campaigns with ONE and To Write Love On Her Arms. Turning to the people, he has consistently utilized his fan-base to support tours, fund albums, and share his story via direct social media connection. Zipf rewards that loyalty with an unwavering commitment to creating music rooted in honesty. He gets on the floor at shows and sings from the back row. He turns the room into a cinema, coats every surface with colors and old film. Zipf doesn't believe in playing music, rather immersing the audience in it. He is constantly looking for ways to create an experience that taps into equal parts rock and roll and big tent revival. After a highly successful PledgeMusic campaign, The Cowards Choir will release NAME THE FEAR in May of 2016. In addition to the album, there will be an accompanying ‘visual score’ by Charlotte, NC filmmaker Will Davis of Small Creatures. Joining Zipf in this collaborative project are long time bassist/keyboardist Ryan Walker, cellist Dayana Yochim, violinist Alissa Moore and drummer/percussionist Logan Lamons.

Band Members: Andy Zipf - lead vocals, guitar Ryan Walker - bgvs, bass, keys Alissa Moore - violin Dayana Yochim - cello Logan Lamons - drums, percussion

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Northern VA: Falls Church and Alexandria

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Andy Zipf has lived in seven states, including Virginia, where he has now called home for the last sixteen years. Longer than anywhere in his life.
A few years ago, when Andy asked Ryan Walker if he knew any bassists, Ryan lied and said he was one. :) So Ryan learned all the bass parts from Andy’s record. That’s a testament to what a great musician Mr. Walker is.
The string players, Alissa and Dayana, asked Andy about potentially working together at Evening Star Cafe a couple years ago. As it happened, Andy was already writing songs that needed strings...fortuitous...

Recommended if you like: Soundgarden, Black Keys, Catfish & the Bottlemen, Muse, Jason Isbell, Paul Simon, Rev. Gary Davis, Frank Zappa

Story behind your band/artist name: My parental units labeled me such.

Band Members: Solo Trio: Dominic Fragman - Drums, Dominic Fragman - Guitar, Dominic Fragman - Vocals; Spirit of Jazz & Democracy: Paul F. Murphy - Drums, Larry Willis - Piano, Jere Carroll - Poet, Dominic Fragman - Drums

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : I live in Southern Maryland. Many of gigs are in DC: Hamilton, Clydes, National Mall, VOA, etc.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Many of my first early gigs as a working musician were in bars and clubs around DC : DC9, Rock n Roll Hotel, Bossa. I also used to play jazz gigs with trumpeter DeAndrey Howard (who now runs Alice's Jazz & Cultural Society in NE). Many of my first gigs as the Solo Trio were in DC. I used to have a monthly Solo Trio residency at the Dew Drop Inn--where I met and collaborated with DC staple underground rocker- Devin Ocampo. I also used to have a residency doing solo drum set performances in Dynasty off 14th and U NW. Ted Zook and the Lost Civilization project were responsible for that one. Nothing too crazy ever really happened . . .. I can't remember if it did!

I wrote a song about refugees a few years back and was selected to play on the National Mall for the DCRally4Refugees on the anniversary of MLK's I Have a Dream Speech on the Mall. That was rad!

One night during a gig with Brent & Co. at the Hamilton Loft, the Tedeski Trucks Band showed up after their gig at the Warner Theatre and finished our set with us. They were doing a three day run a t Warner and I hung with them for the rest of the weekend. That was rad too!

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Dominic Fragman is cofounder of the Spirit of Jazz & Democracy (SJD). SJD is a program of lectures, concerts, workshops, and masterclasses that highlight the congruency of jazz and democracy and focus on the role of improvisation and innovation in the expansion of freedom and the betterment of the human condition. At the center of the program are fully improvised concerts by master musicians Paul F. Murphy (drums) and Larry Willis (piano), with guest performances by poet laureate Jere Carroll and multi-instrumentalist Dominic Fragman. In Fall 2017, SJD was in residence at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The school recognized the events of the residency as historic. Oxford University Press' Grove Music Dictionary has noted the music as a new direction in jazz and art.

Fragman is a Zildjian, Regal Tip, AHEAD, and Wicked Chops artist. What’s Up Magazine calls him “a kung fu master of the drums. He is the next generation of trailblazing drummers and pushes the boundaries of rhythm exploring music from all angles with his instrument and free spirit.” Zildjian will be recommending another of Fragman’s programs, The Spirit of Innovation & Drumming, to international drum festivals. The programming presented by Fragman and master drummer Paul F. Murphy includes master classes, clinics, and performances that focus on developing improvisation and innovative approaches to the drum set. Murphy and Fragman will be releasing a drum method book in November entitled, "The Continuum Method: Innovation, Freedom, & Drumming" which focuses on the concepts of the Spirit of Innovation & Drumming: history, tradition, craft, and progress. Murphy and Fragman also present their work as clinicians, the most recent happening at Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center with Zildjian and Wicked Chops.

Fragman is currently the “face” and feature artist of the Wicked Chops Practice Pad. The Wicked Chops Practice Pad is a revolutionary drum practice pad invented by master drummer, Paul F. Murphy. Murphy is a documented innovator in drumming. He has recorded as a leader at CBS and RCA and has been included in several Oxford University Press music reference publications for his contributions to music and drumming. He was also the premier soloist at Louie Bellson's wedding to Francine Bellson. The Wicked Chops team brought the pad to market in December through AHEAD and Big Bang Distribution. It is now available in 172 countries. Fragman has been featured with the pad at NAMM18, the Delaware Drum Show, the Connecticut Drum Show, and on Drumeo and Drum Talk TV. Fragman is featured on Drum Talk TV 1-2 times per week for Wicked Chops Live. The show averages about 10,000 views per episode.

Fragman is also a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. He has lived and worked in Nashville, Manhattan, and Los Angeles and has about 4 albums of original commercial material. He has received international radio, TV, and press coverage for his Solo Trio Project where he plays guitar, drum set, and sings simultaneously. All live, no looping. As the Solo Trio and a songwriter, he has performed on the National Mall, at Rams Head OnStage, Rams Head Live, and the Bluebird Cafe. Videos of the Solo Trio have been on the front page of Reddit, on TV in the US and Japan, and have been written about by Guitar Player Magazine, Classic Rock Magazine, and a host of others.

Fragman has been involved in numerous diverse activities from study with legendary pianist Cecil Taylor who invited Fragman to play at the state side 2013 Kyoto Award ceremony, to publication by Oxford University Press, and lectures at the Voice of America headquarters in Washington, DC.
