Story behind your band/artist name: I’m also a BMI-published singer/songwriter and have just released my second EP entitled “Qualifiers”. Here’s what’s interesting about this whole thing. Early in high school my band, which was called Tennessee Flying Goose, was the VERY FIRST band to play the Birchmere. We were 15 years old and played Bluegrass. My dad knew Gary Olze, the owner. Gary, also a bluegrass musician, was about to take out one of the booths in the original location in Shirlington, and build a make-shift stage. We got to play on it, in front of a bunch of beer drinkers, one Thursday night in 1973. After college, I packed up an old Audi (without a radio) and drove 3,000 miles by myself from DC to LA. My mission was to put together a LA-inspired Cosmic American band and make records. Success came early. The band I fell into had already been involved in the burgeoning “Paisley Underground” scene of early 80’s LA, liked my songs, and took me on as their lead singer and songwriter. We played clubs in and around Hollywood such as Madam Wong’s and Club 88, and were probably a whole lot closer to a record deal than we thought we were. I, unfortunately, ran out of money and courage and came back home to Washington after just a couple of years. I put my guitar down in the 90’s and 00’s to pursue a “straighter” line of work including working for DC Ad Agencies and Tech firms. I also raised a family in Vienna, VA. For about 25 years, my music was relegated to “hobby status”. In 2011, I remarried a women whom I had originally met at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach in 1987. In 2012, I wrote my first song in 20 years for her. It just happened to be better than anything I’d ever written before. That opened the flood gates and my music has come back to me. In buckets. In 2017, I released my first EP called “Rearranged” with some of the very best musicians in Tidewater, VA. It has received unbelievably positive reviews in No Depression and other prominent music publications and blogs. This week, I’ll release my second record. And it is significantly better than the first. I have put together a band and have recently given successful, well-attended concerts at Jammin Java in Vienna, and The Tin Pan in Richmond. On July 15th, we play Union Stage in Washington.

Band Members: Larry BerwaldE Electric Guitars; Dave Hufstedler: Bass; Andrew Payne: Drums; Jamie Lewis: Keyboards; Ryan Gaujot: Mandolin; MarkRogers: Acoustic Guitar and Vocals.
