Recommended if you like: Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Shannon and the Clams, B-52's, DEVO

Story behind your band/artist name: Named after a really old Devo song from the Hardcore Devo Volume 2 album, which they recorded themselves in a basement. Also all the songs are about emotions, feelings, and experiences that we usually don't reveal to even the closest friends.

Band Members: Niko (guitar, vocals), Mikey (guitar, vocals), Colin (bass, vocals), James (synth, vocals), Alex (drums)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : U St./Shaw/Columbia Heights area of D.C.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: -We recently played at the Fort Reno Festival, where Ian Mackaye watched us play and told us he loved our band face to face, after which we freaked out, had nervous breakdowns, and texted all of our friends about it.

-Colin (bassist) of Bottled Up used to play drums and bass in Babe City Records band Young Rapids, and still performs with other DC bands like Dangers, Paperhaus and Den-mate.

-Bottled Up recorded with Tommy Sherrod of Fullglass Studios in Silver Spring, MD. He's recorded and mixed a ton of local DC bands like Go Cozy, BRNDA, Young Rapids, and Den-mate.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Bottled Up was originally Niko's solo project founded in Oakland, CA, recording all around the west coast from Portland down to Los Angeles. He would play all the instruments himself on those older recordings, as well as record them himself on an 8-track tape machine. They recently put out their self-titled EP on cassette with Chicago garage/experimental label Maximum Pelt Records.

Lion's Den, California, Lovejerk 2, and Binary Worms tracks are all safe for radio play. Any songs with cursing, or any other explicit content, are marked as explicit on Spotify and iTunes.

Curse Words DC Music Rocks

Info

Band/Artist Name: Curse Words

Recommended if you like: Green Day, Weezer, The Clash, The Menzingers, NOFX

Band Members: Tommy - Guitar & Vocals, Pete - Guitar & Vocals, Aaron - Bass & Back-up Vocals, Craig - Drums

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Takoma, Washington DC

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Curse Words likes engaging discussions about outer space, the Renaissance Festival, science-fiction, WVU sports & the DC United, pinball, NY style pizza, retro video games and tacos. Curse Words has no dislikes, there's too much negativity out there already.

Individually:
Tommy reads a lot of fantasy books, plays too much basketball for his own good, and wishes he was good at skateboarding. He spent the entire summer at the pool floating on a pineapple raft.

Pete is the talented one in the band, and he is good at shredding the guitar, designing cool websites and can use the computer real good. He also secretly wishes he played the drums in the band. Pete owns a house and therefore is the responsible one in the band by default.

Aaron is originally from Pittsburgh and moved to DC a few years ago. He occasionally uses funny Pittsburgh slang that the rest of the band doesn't understand and things tend to get contentious during the hockey season. He is the band's whiskey expert.

Craig is the band's outdoorsman. He knows everything about every plant, animal, and fungus ever. When he's not playing the drums, Craig can be found mushroom hunting, bird watching, or chopping logs.

Info

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Weird Babies

Recommended if you like: 1/4 cup of the Fall, a dash of Jawbreaker, a pinch of Argument-era Fugazi, a bit of Japandroids

Story behind your band/artist name: We stole it from a children's rhyme. More cannot be told, as parents worldwide would revolt against our appropriating the words and associating them with such harsh, discordant sounds, and rebellious meaning.

Band Members: Alex D, guitar and vox. Josh Freed, bass and vox. Avi Zevin, drums.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : We live, practice, and mostly play east of the park in Washington, DC. Alex is in Pleasant Plains, Josh in Mount Pleasant, Avi in Columbia Heights.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: Weird Babiesare a year-old punk trio pulled together by the magnetic force that is DC punk rock. Bassist Josh Freed grew up in Silver Spring and has lived in or around the punk scene since 1984, when the rumors finally hit his middle school that Minor Threat had broken up (one year after the fact). Freed also played the DC post-hardcore band Proximity Fuse in the mid-1990s. Guitarist Alex Dent, a musical anthropologist at GWU, came to DC by way of Chicago where he played alt-country. He was forced by roving gangs of sonic enforcers at the DC-VA border to abandon his twang, purchase a distortion pedal, and study the entire Dischord catalogue for musical re-education before forming his next band. Drummer Zevin grew up in LA and came to DC to work (eventually teaming up professionally with Freed). After an attempt at the square world, and several post-midnight, high-stakes negotiations, he was entered into the band following a rigorous background check and oath of secrecy.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: There is no core philosophy to Weird Babies, musical or otherwise. We are simply a loud, chaotic, political DC punk rock band.
