Their lyric-driven music has its roots in folk, rock, pop, americana, country, and bluegrass -- think Johnny & June Carter Cash meet Shovels & Rope. In March 2016, the band released its debut EP, I Guess We're Doing Alright, which was described as "the musical version of 60 mg of Prozac" by WAMU's Bandwidth. Handsome Hound brings the same level of energy to shows, from Sofar Sounds to the John F. At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: When I'm in DC, I try to eat an eggplant parm sandwich from Bub & Pops 2x week.
I once ate shit off the steps at the Lincoln monument.
Jake Vicious and I worked on all these records in House Studio, which is in Hyattsville.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: This song is a story about a very hard day in Washington, D.C. when I was sort of surprised with a think piece on the loss of a close friend. I had a slight meltdown at work, proceeded to tell nobody, walked outside and all around downtown DC. When I got on the train (good ole WMATA, hahaha), I saw the usual sights: people with headphones, cell phones, and tired expressions. I knew if my lil angel was given more time here on earth, he would have been enjoying his ride more than these folks. And for some reason, that gave me peace.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : currently living in the Chevy Chase, Maryland area – “Home Bases” would be West Palm Beach, FL, and Knoxville, TN, where I was born.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: 1. Upon moving to the DC area, my first open mic was at the legendary, Gypsy Sally’s, in Georgetown. I waited for 6 hours for a coveted spot on the list and then performed some of my original songs. After that night I went on to book several gigs there! The Vinyl Lounge is one of my favorite spots in DC!

2. This past December I was chosen by the US Dept of the Interior to perform in the Christmas Music Program in front of the National Christmas Tree at the White House! I performed in front of thousands of tourists visiting from across the country!

3. When I first moved here I took any and every gig I could book. I can distinctly remember performing in one venue where the owner bragged about how he bought “seating” from a used hospital furniture wholesaler for a “great deal” and the “bar” consisted of soda and water out of a mini fridge.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and started writing music when I was 10. The first song I wrote was about labeled and judged as a kid. I won the “most original” superlative in Middle School and it stung a bit because I was so shy, so I started writing music.

-Marielle once won a half time shooting competition at a Georgetown basketball game when I was 8

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Marielle Kraft is a singer/songwriter originally from Rhode Island, and currently based outside of Washington D.C. in Maryland. Self-taught, she began playing guitar at 16 and writing songs soon after. Her songs take shape as honest stories through comfortable arrangements, drawing influence from artists like Shawn Mendes, Sara Bareilles, and Taylor Swift. Oftentimes these stories are ones that we all find a piece of ourselves in, yet are written in a way simply unique to Marielle's artistry.

Over the past few years, Marielle Kraft has self-released two original EPs, as well as a recent single, followed by the release of her first official music video in collaboration with Heuristic Films.

Her first EP, Today Tomorrow Someday (2014) navigates the search for new purpose, while still remembering your roots. Her sophomore live EP, The Gibraltar Sessions (2016), features a stripped down delivery of 5 unheard original songs that seamlessly match clever lyrics of love, longing, and identity with refreshing melodies that will ring in your head for days afterward.

Her latest release, the singer-songwriter pop single "How Far You Feel," which has already collected nearly 200,000 streams across platforms, seeks to understand physical vs. emotional distance in a relationship.

Marielle Kraft regularly plays at venues across the mid-atlantic, sharing stages with names as big as Fatai, The WLDLFE, and Betty Who. This spring she was crowned grand champion of the Muzikarmegeddon Solo Singer-Songwriter Competition, and in June she delivered a Tedx talk at Firefly 2018, detailing the vital art of honesty rooted her songwriting.

“Marielle showed a clever intensity in her material that, when coupled with her wonderful voice, pulled the listener into her story.” - Joe Trainor (Muzikarmegeddon founder, Gable Music Ventures).

Marielle has announced plans to tour in different regions of the country this summer, and will release new original music coming soon.

Instead we ended up on the next show which was with Daughtry and Magic. Due to my job in broadcast sports I was supposed to work the winter classic a year back but instead went out to Hawaii to party for a month. I talked to the person who replaced me at the event and was essentially the personal assistant to Billy Idol for the event. But Hawaii's always fun.

Basically a donated acoustic guitar is loaned to a singer/songwriter and you have one week to write a song and record it on a movie camera (provided by the project) then pass the guitar to the next songwriter. Once all 5 are finished the organizer will host a concert where all 5 artists will play their song. The project is active in multiple cities around the world. All the songs are posted to their website and blog/podcast.
2. I have lived in the DC metro area now 3 different times over the years. First time I was living near Tokyo Japan then moved to Northern Virginia, then to Kailua, Hawaii back to Northern Virginia, most recently I moved this summer from Southern California back to Arlington. I recorded my album in San Diego but all of my album performances have been in the DC area.
3. I have travelled and lived in many places in the world from Europe, Asia, Australia and North America and coast to coast throughout the US. There is no other place quite like the DC area (that's probably why I'm back). So much culture, passion, entertainment and simply interesting people all in the backdrop of our nation's capital. Those who gripe about it, have not travelled much.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: I'm an independent singer-songwriter with a professional day job. No world tours in my future. Writing songs is just a part of who I am. I have been doing for years but with the encouragement of family and friends, I decided to record an entire album. Please take a listen. My influences are varied from rock, Americana, blues and country. It's all mixed in there depending on the track. My album is titled "Ordinary Day" and has 10 all original tracks. The neo-introspective songwriting forms the medium to tell lyrical stories of love, joy, loss, and standing up for what’s right. Thanks for listening and your consideration.

What part of the DC/DMV region is the band/artist connected to AND HOW?: DC--both members live in DC

What might we say to introduce the band/artist on the show?: Two Dragons and a Cheetah is the Washington, DC-based duo made up of singer-guitarist, Maryjo Mattea, and drummer, Joel Wu. 2D&C blends together abrasive hard rock guitars, melodic vocals, funk and alternative inspired drum beats, and intense, yet pop-sensible songwriting, resulting in a sound that is both aggressive and pretty all at the same time. It’s melodic garage rock, drenched in distortion, yet easy on the ears. It’s dirty and it’s beautiful and unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. It’s like unicorns making babies on the sun. It’s Two Dragons and a Cheetah.

3 fun local facts about the artist/bands relationship with the DC Area?: 1. Both members met while working at the Institute of Medicine
2. The band got its name from a random guy who shouted it out from the bar at a venue in Baltimore
3. Joel took the year off to travel the world for a year and you can follow his travels at www.joelwu.com; Maryjo is still in town making music and you can follow her exploits at www.maryjomattea.com

Is there a message to the DC region that the band/artist would want posted?: Give less f*cks. Drink more beer.
