What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Northern Virginia

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: I moved to this area in 2002 listening mostly to punk rock bands like the Ramones, and some instrumental metal like Jason Becker and Yngwie Malmsteen until I started guitar lessons at the levine school with Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas.

Once playing a private event in DC as a trio, since no one was listening we decided to switch instruments just for fun. Just then, someone stopped by and said "you sound really good", and we started what became our only applause for the night.

I went to all gigs by public transportation only until June 2014. A few times I rode my bike with my guitar and pedals on my back, a stand on one hand, and my amp in a bag hanging from my neck.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: It's a very diverse ensemble, 2 from Argentina (one with a strong tango sound, the other with both classical and jazz), 1 from Bulgaria with a classical background, 1 Jewish with a rock and Klezmer background, and 1 American who specializes in afro-cuban music.

Info

Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Kim Scudera (scuh -DEH-rah) Trio Coraggioso (TREE-oh core-ah-JOE-zoh)

Recommended if you like: Diana Krall, Stacey Kent

Story behind your band/artist name: If you’ve ever been to Girl Scout camp, you know that you have to choose a nickname on the very first day. When I volunteered to lead a group of 30 scouts for a week of summer camp, I didn’t know this, because I had never been a Girl Scout. So, sitting around the camp circle, I’m all deer in the headlights while they all waited for me to tell them my camp nickname. All I could think of was Fearless Leader from Rocky & Bullwinkle. So I told them my name was “Fearless”, and it stuck. Fast-forward to this project: we have a fearlessness in approach and in material that takes us into uncharted territory on a regular basis. The trio has the musical chops to take risks and go to some very interesting places. So “coraggioso”, which is Italian for courageous or fearless!

Band Members: Kim (vocals), Dave Anderson (piano), Mike Wingo (percussion)

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Home is Northern Virginia (Herndon, Fairfax, Reston)

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: 1) Kim’s song on the use of the dichotomous key is used in botany classes all over Virginia, following her performance of the song at the Virginia Master Naturalist annual conference.
2) Do you remember the piano they used to have at the Nordstrom’s in Tysons Corner? Dave used to play there. And at Blues Alley, and the Ritz-Carlton, but making a living with music is not always pretty.
3) Mike is a founding member of Gamelan Mitra Kusuma, a Washington, DC based Balinese Gamelan orchestra.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: We’ve just released our first studio album, “Exploration”, to rave reviews. Here’s one from the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, following our CD release concert: “Anderson-Wingo Duo with Kim Scudera at a very packed Old Town Hall - fabulous ..... WOW !!”
