Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: Free Lobster Buffet (frē ˈläbstər bəˈfā)
Recommended if you like: The Pietasters, Reel Big Fish, The Aquabats
Story behind your band/artist name: It was recommended by a friend of ours when we lamented that all the good names to put on a marquee were taken, like "Free Beer" and Bare Naked Ladies." The weird part is how many people think they'll get free lobster - or want it, for that matter.
Band Members: Chris B (Crispy) - bass, vocals; Joan - vocals; Lindsay - vocals; Ben - guitar; Chris "Sears" Swearingen - drums; Dan - tuba; Carson - trumpet; KC - Trombone, Josh - trombone
What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Members come from all around the DMV, but the band's home base has always been our rehearsal space on Capitol Hill. I formed my first band in DC in 1989, a psychedelic punk outfit called The Freaky Boot.
At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: We filmed the video for our song "Flat Box Life" on a Saturday afternoon at the Woodbridge IKEA, but they were super busy and we were buying stuff so they just left us alone.
The band formed after the three founders drunkenly boasted at a school fundraiser that a live band would kick ass over a DJ so the organizers hired us on the spot and we had to step up (Ben Trajtenberg, bass player for Cosimc Romp, was one of those founders but moved away to Dubai for several years).
The original horn section for FLB was made up of musicians from the Commandant's Own, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corp stationed at the historic Marine Barracks on Capitol Hill.
