Band/Artist Name & Pronunciation: JUMPIN' JUPITER

Story behind your band/artist name: It was an exclamation of excitement back in the day. The pre- waking hours of rock & roll. It was also the name of a game produced by a company in Alexandria. Our guitar player is a collector of antique toys and brout it home. A hilarious toy, great graphics, and we needed a name. The astral area is limitless as well so there's that....

Band Members: Patrick Cavanaugh- all guitar, Douglas Hoeksrta- drum pounder, Louie Newmyer- bass banger, Jay Jenc- song singer

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Arlington, va-

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: In the past 25 years, Pat, Doug,& Jay have continued to remain together with 5 different bass players passing through. First full on rock and roll band to grace the stage at the now shuttered IOTA club & cafe, as well as one of the last. Almost took a very lucrative gig on July 4th on a barge on the Potomac River, between the 14th & Roosevelt Bridge, until we found we would be loaded on the bridge at 11am and remain there until after the fireworks had ended, playing 2-3 sets leading up to the fireworks display. They promised to visit us in their fancy boats with food and irls in bikinis and snacks, but we just couldn't do it....

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Jay has secretly been a working chef in the Metropolitan area the whole time! Patrick builds guitars and repairs stringed wood instruments. Douglas has a side project, SPACE COSSACKS, that occasionally goes on tours with other awesome surf bands. Louie plays in countless other projects, is of Armands Pizza family royalty, and played bass for Ringo Start at one time.

Band/Artist Name: Lanternfish

Recommended if you like: Audioslave, Deftones, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumkpins, Dark New Day, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Story behind your band/artist name: So "Lanternfish" is the name of a song Toby, our singer and bassist wrote years ago. When we first began playing music and writing together he brought us the song and we adapted it for the full band, as it was originally an acoustic tune. After played it the first time, we really loved it. It rocked, hard. At the time we were debating band names as the one we wanted, Cast, was already taken. So one of use (we cant remember who) said "Hey, Lanternfish (the name of the song) is actually a really awesome band name" and thus Lanternfish was born. It has informed our music and writing approach and means more to us than just being a name. Lanternfish defines us, our music and our performance. Come check it out, you'll be blown away.

Band Members: Toby Andersen - Vocals and Bass, Gibran Esa - Guitars and effects, and Robert MacPherson, Drums

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : We are Washington DC based. We all met, bartending at a bar in Glover Park. Rob and Gibran went to AU at the same time and Toby is a DMV area native, as is Gibran.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: We all bartend at a local bar in Glover Park (can you find which one?) - Town Hall.

Toby has a very special tattoo that was designed by a good friend of ours, and is also the symbol of our band

We played our first show a little over a year ago at the Velvet Lounge, where we met Pablo, who is now the lead guitarist in Black Dog Prowl. That concert spurred an enduring friendship and many collaborations since.

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: We are currently finishing our debut EP, titled "Forgetfulness". The first track off the EP is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. It is called "Lanternfish".

Info

Band/Artist Name: of Tomorrow

Recommended if you like: Muse, Umphrey's McGee, Radiohead, Weather Report,

Story behind your band/artist name: The full story of how we met, our concept, our first show, and how it has grown to its current state is concisely explained here, in our recent interview with Mike Sains of Audio Barre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nozxrldCmIY

Band Members: Geoff Browning (guitar, vocals), Jon Modell (drums/percussion), Nick Soderstrom (bass), and a rotating cast of our favorite musicians/collaborators who never fail to keep things fresh, creative, and inspiring.

What part of the DC region is the artist tied to and how? Where is the artist's current home base if not DC : Geoff lives on Capitol Hill in DC - and we even recorded part of our record there. Jon Modell lives in Falls Church, and Nick Soderstrom lives in DC. So, DC is our current home base.

At least 3 interesting/entertaining facts about the band related to persons/events in Washington DC area: We are good friends with DC's own Oddisee (http://www.npr.org/2017/02/18/515388491/oddisees-the-iceberg-has-a-trove-of-stories-beneath-its-surface), and we share a few bandmates with his band GOOD COMPNY, including Ralph Real (keys) and DJ UNOWN (mpc/samples). They are amazing. We recently lent them our practice space, so they could use it to get ready for their tour 0 and Oddisee made a promo video about our "secret" practice space (see here - https://www.facebook.com/oddiseemusic/videos/10154573022707982/).
2. Our lead singer Geoff Browning worked on Capitol Hill for Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, and other Democrats - on the front lines of legislative fights over education, foreign affairs, defense, consumer protection/financial services, and other issues. He helped Barney with his book, wrote and performed an original song for his wedding (the first-ever time a sitting member of congress married a same-sex partner), and ultimately asked Barney to record lyrics for a song on our new album, which he did. Barney was the former chair of the Financial Services Committee, and author of Dodd-Frank. Listen to his track here: https://voidlife.bandcamp.com/track/floutro-ft-hfsc-chairman-barney-frank-ret-author-dodd-frank-act

3. Jon Modell, our drummer, is a fixture on the DC music scene - he has played in tons of bands (since high school) with members of Thievery Corporation, Fugazi, etc - he toured with Fort Knox Five - he also toured with (and learned how to play reggae from) Junior Marvin, Bob Marley's guitar player. He used to play in Nappy Riddem as well, and sometimes still plays dates with them.

4. Our album is being distributed by VoidLife records, out of College Park Maryland, our dear friends who are doing amazing things on the DC music scene. The album itself can be downloaded for FREE on our website (www.bandoftomorrow.com), but for anyone who would like to order a physical copy, or who wants to pay us for the digital download, they can go over to the VL bandcamp (http://voidlife.bandcamp.com/album/of-tomorrow) and scoop it up there. Every physical CD order ships with personalized trinkets, thank yous, drawings on the envelope, and more. Come join the community!

Anything else we should know, or you want to share: Our bass player Nick Soderstrom studied music in Sweden (at conservatory) and New Orleans (at Loyola) - his speed, dexterity, and timing are a thing to behold. For a good example of this, check out the song Basslove on our album, featuring Jon Ferrara from Consider the Source. Jon is an old friend and another prominent bass player - so when we asked him to play on our album (and duel with Nick), he was pretty excited to do it.
